Cute Locations to Shoot in Capitol Hill

August 14, 2019

My photographer friends are always asking me where the best spots are for taking pictures. It’s a tough question to answer because there are endless locations. The simple answer is to shoot in a place that will compliment the style of the session you are doing and always be exploring so you can constantly add to your list of new locations. But if you’re ever near Capitol Hill and you’re just browsing for ideas, here are a few lovely spots I found while exploring the area with a few of my model/photographer friends.

Quick Tip: If parking is difficult to find (it almost always is in Capitol Hill) Park at the Safeway and walk from there. All the locations in this post are within shot walking distance of each other.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery

Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room is a 15,000-square-foot one of a kind Starbucks just nine blocks from the original 1912 Pike Store in Seattle. The Roastery is one of the largest Starbucks stores in the world and a great place to take amazing pictures! If you don’t mind being patient and navigating this sometimes overly crowded location (hey just grab a coffee and chill) you can get some beautiful portraits!

Colorful Wall

This Colorful Wall makes for such a fun backdrop! I’m always on the lookout for fun pops of color and unique murals. We stumbled upon this little gem while we were walking around Capitol Hill. Wearing solid colors seems to work best with such vibrant backgrounds but I still love the images we took. These girls are such a vibrant group anyway and you can definitely see their beautiful personalities shine through with each smile!

Color Wall - Location: 1019 E Pike St, Seattle, WA 98122
This address is for Hot House, if you are there you'll see the color wall directly next to the entrance.

Lovely Little Alley

This Lovely Little Alley was by far my favorite of the locations we shot at! Such a variety of textures, colors and backgrounds. Everything from brick walls, twinkle lights, vintage windows, wood and stairs. I loved it!

Cute Alley - Location: 1424 11th Ave Ste C2, Seattle, WA 98122
This address is for Kurt Farm Shop inside this cozy little alley. Stop in and grab some ice cream!

Rolling Stones Poster Wall

A Wall Covered in Rolling Stones Posters stopped me dead in my tracks as we were cruising around looking for good eats. The posters are close to the ground but with a few relaxed sitting poses it was easy to fill the background with them. We convinced Amanda to model for these images even though she is usually on the other end of the camera. One of my favorite photographers ever, I loved getting a chance to snap a few pictures of her.

Unicorn Narwal

Unicorn Narwal packs a lot of personality in this little carnival themed bar. Featuring an arcade, claw machine, photo booth and lots of carnival flair. They do require a fee to take pictures there and the lighting downstairs is very dark. But it does have a very wacky unique vibe.

Drop a line and let me know what your favorite spot was, or if you do shoot at any of these locations drop a few pictures in the comments! I always love seeing other photographer’s work!
